Just reading the Richard Jefferson thread in NBA forum. I have strong feelings on this issue that I feel most and I mean most people who are gay were born that way. Something missing in chromosomes or something.

I am straight and have worked around several gay men and for some reason could always tell. In the voice, the clothes, just something about them. I am not a homophobe and do respect most people regardless of there sexual preference. I just see to many familiarities in gays to think that it is really not a choice. I am sure there are a few out there that choose it but I feel most are just born that way.

lets hear.

Most gay people claim to have known they were 'different' around about the time that we start becoming aware of sexuality. Probably around age 8 or so. (Certainly a lot earlier for JoeyFitz, who I'm sure noticed girls when he was still in diapers.) Any gay person I've asked about it said they have zero doubt that this is something inherent in them, as opposed to a 'choice.'

I'll take their word for it.

kodiak once told me that growing up he did not realize he was gay, in fact he kissed a few girls in his time. But one night he smoked a huge dong and from that moment on he realized that the long, straight and narrow was the road for him.

Well, I didn't 'choose' to be straight. I just am. Guessing it's the same for you?

Unless in prison, I can't imagine a scenario in which a straight person would prefer to be gay, if they aren't.

As far as gays acting a certain way... I don't think that has anything to do with being born gay. They act gay because that's what ways gays act in my opinion. Kids from the ghetto all act alike as well for the most part... doesn't mean they were born ghetto in their chromosomes and their brain is telling them to wear basketball jerseys and use a ton of slang.

I used to work with a gay dude that decided he was gay and then decided to talk with a lisp and take up the arts and whatnot.

I think it's just the way they want to be.

Not sure if people are born gay or not but as far as acting gay, I think it's just a way to fit in.

Anyway, weird topic haha.

When I was about 19, 11 years ago, I was working with a co-worker who was gay and I was asking him all kinds of questions about why he was gay. At that time I was very homophobe because I've lived in the deep south all of my life and people around here aren't very tolerent. Anyway after about 5 minutes of grilling him like I was better than him or something, he looked at me and said "Don't you think if it was a choice, I would have chosen to not be gay?"

After he said that I really thought about it and it changed my views on gays and lesbians.

So I think it's not a choice or preference, but rather an orientation.
